Member Referrals

An overview of the capabilities of member referrals in the Rinsed platform

Referral programs are programs that incentivize current members to refer their friends and family to sign up for memberships. 

How Member Referrals Work

Each member in Rinsed has a unique referral code assigned to them. As a Rinsed customer, you can share those referral codes with your members, who can then send them out to friends and family. 

Members can access their referral code either by:

  • Viewing it in the Customer Portal
  • Receiving it in a campaign or scheduled message 

To simplify the referral code distribution process, you can also send out referral links that dynamically populate the referral code. That way, customers can easily share out a link with friends, rather than having them copy/paste a code. 

From there, you can also add a "referral code" custom field to your checkout forms, and Rinsed can track the number of checkouts associated with a referral code. Please work with your CSM to get a Referrals Dashboard created in your Rinsed account. 

Please Note: In its current state, Rinsed cannot automate any step beyond reporting on the referrals. 

How to Set Up Member Referrals

  1. Add a "Referral Code" field to your checkout form
    1. Create a new checkout form, or open an existing one and click Actions> Edit. 
    2. Under Custom Fields click Add Custom field. Screenshot 2024-07-09 at 10.15.44 AM
    3. Now, fill in the field_code (you can make this up- for example, "member_referral_code") as well as the field label (this is the user-facing name of the field, for example, "Member Referral Code."Screenshot 2024-07-09 at 10.17.05 AM
    4. Save changes.
    5. Make sure to have the URL for the checkout form page handy as you will need it later.
  2. Distribute referral codes/referral links to members in an email or text message. Note that this can be done in a variety of ways through Rinsed- in a checkout confirmation, a scheduled or campaign message, a contact form confirmation, or through the customer portal. 
    1. Create the text or email template you would like to use. 
    2. To send the code directly, simply add the "Membership referral code" merge tag to the template ("Here's your referral code-____)
    3. To send a referral link that pre-populates the referral code:
      1. Insert the link to the checkout form in the email or text.
      2. At the end of the URL, add the following parameter: ?custom_field={{membership_referral_code]]
        1. The referral code will populate at the end of the URL once sent. When the customer opens this link, they'll see the referral code already populated in the custom field. 
  3. Submit a data request to your CSM to be able to track the referral code analytics.
  4. Members distribute their code/link as they please.
  5. When a friend/family of the member goes to make a purchase, they should ensure that a referral code is properly entered into the referral code field.
  6. When a successful purchase is made and a referral code is entered, that purchase will be attributed to the original member in the dashboard.
