Reward your customers with loyalty points when they refer a new member, or when they sign up using a referral code.
Incorporate referrals into your Rinsed Reward Loyalty Program to incentivize members to refer their friends and family to your unlimited club. The referrer and referee both get rewards points when a new member signs up!
How Member Referrals Work
Each member in Rinsed has a unique referral code assigned to them, which they can see in the customer portal under My Profile.
Members can copy their referral code and send it directly to friends and family for use during signup. When a new member signs up, they'll be prompted to enter a referral code on the checkout form - this can be either the existing member's unique referral code, OR the existing member's phone number or license plate.
The referee will see an optional referral code field when signing up for a new membership online. Just enter the existing member's code, phone number, or license plate, and both the referrer and referee will earn loyalty points!
Setting Up Your Referral Program
1. Enable referral codes in customer portal
- In the Navigation Bar, click Customer Management > Customer Portal
- Scroll to Referral Code
- Click Enable Referral Code in Customer Portal
- Click Save
2. Add Referrals as Ways to Earn in your Reward Loyalty Program
- In the Navigation Bar, click Marketing > Reward Loyalty Program
- Scroll to Earning Points
- Select Add Ways to Earn
- Choose Points for Referring Others
- Add a Name for this type of points (customer-facing)
- Choose how many points will be awarded to the referrer for each new member sign-up
- Set a limit on how many referrals each loyalty account can earn points for (optional)
- Click Add
- If you would like to reward the referee as well, click Add Ways to Earn, then select Points for Being Referred
- Add a Name for this type of points (customer-facing)
- Choose how many points will be awarded to the referee when using a referral code to sign up
- Set a minimum number of days since last membership expiration, to prevent "gaming the system" (optional)
- Click Add
And that's it! Once you've added referral-based "Ways to Earn" to your program, the Referral code field will automatically be added to your checkout forms.
Encourage Referrals with Message Blasts
If you want to promote your referral program, you can send all of your active members their referral code or referral link in a message blast.
Here's what that message might look like:
To add referral codes or referral links to a message blast:
- Create a new campaign message or scheduled message. This can be an SMS message, or an email.
- To send the referral code itself, simply add the Membership referral code merge tag to the template ("Here's your referral code - )
- To send a referral link that pre-populates the referral code:

- Insert the link to a membership checkout form in the email or text.
- At the end of the URL, add the following text: ?referral_code=
- If this is an SMS message, click Enable short links
- The referral code will populate at the end of the URL once sent. When the customer opens this link, they'll see the referral code already populated on the checkout form, so sign-up is even easier!
