Blocking and Limiting Purchases for Recent Members

Prevent abuse of online discounts using Rinsed Checkout Forms

If you're offering a membership discount online, you might be nervous that current members will abuse the promotion by canceling their plan and signing back up at a discounted rate. Luckily, you can prevent this using our Configure product for recent members option in Checkout Forms. This setting allows you to block sales for recent members, and/or sell recent members into a different product.

Setup

1. Open your Checkout Form in The Car Wash CRM (under Checkouts > Checkout Forms > Edit)

2. Add a product

3. Hover over the user clog icon and select Configure product for recent members

4. From here, you can either block purchases entirely for members who have been active within the last X months, OR you can sell those recent members into a different (non-discounted product).

a. To block purchases, select Do not allow sale, then select a number of months within which to define "recent member." Screenshot_2025-04-09_at_10.36.26aAM

If an ineligible customer attempts to purchase this item, they will see an error message letting them know they are ineligible and they will not be able to follow through with the purchase, as shown below.

You can customize the error message for blocked purchases within the checkout form settings:

b. Alternatively, you can choose to sell recent members into a different product, such as a full price membership. For this configuration, simply select the product from the product list, and define "recent members" using the months dropdown.

5. Repeat this process for any other products you are selling on this checkout form.

Tip: When using this feature, we highly recommend adding language to your website that clearly describes the terms of the promotion/discount, such as "Promo applies to first-time members only, others will be sold membership at full price."

Examples

In this first example, we are saying that anyone who was an active member within the last 6 months will be blocked from purchasing the Basic 50% off item on this checkout form.

How "Recent Members" are Defined

To determine if a customer falls in the "Recent member" category, we use a combination of name and email or name and phone or email and phone to determine an existing customer. If we have a customer record that meets this criteria, and that customer has a membership record where their last charge date is more than X months ago (X being the number of months you set in the Checkout Form), that person will be considered a "recent member."
