Shortcode Keywords

Understanding shortcode keywords and how you can use them for messaging customers

What is a shortcode?

A shortcode keyword enables you to collect customer phone numbers through inbound text messages. The customer will send a text message to the shortcode number, and the phone number will be added to a contact list. You can set up a confirmation message of your choice, which will be sent back to the customer as soon as their message is received.

NOTE: Shortcodes are NOT case sensitive.

How Does a shortcode work?

You will determine what you want your shortcode keyword to be (i.e. "YOURCARWASHNAME"). Your shortcode keyword can be any combination of letters and numbers and should be unique to your branding. Once we create a shortcode keyword for you at Rinsed, you will create marketing materials (thinks signage at your wash) to alert customers that they can text the shortcode keyword to 22322. A popular way to use a shortcode is to have people text in in exchange for a free wash. We can do all of this in Rinsed!

How To Request A Shortcode Keyword:

You can reach out to support@rinsed.co and let us know what you want your keyword to be. We will set it up for you and let you know when it is ready to be used.

How To Find Your Shortcode In Rinsed:

When we create a shortcode keyword for you, it will appear as a contact list. You can find it under Marketing>Contact Lists and look for the shortcodekeyword designation. The contact list will be named "shortcode- [nameofshortcode]"

How To Add A Text Or Email Confirmation Message To A Shortcode Contact List

After you located your contact list, you can add a text or email confirmation message that will function as a response to a text in to the shortcode. Here is a video walking you through that process:

Rinsed Tip: For more information on adding vouchers into Rinsed, make sure to check out our voucher articles.

Once you have set the confirmation message, you are done! You can test the message to see what it will look like when a customer texts in:

Now all you need to do is create marketing materials that display this shortcode so customers know to text in! Once they do this, they will be added to the contact list.
